Innovations in Border Security

As the UK faces complex threats from organised crime and extremist groups, the government is under pressure to improve border and public security at the same time as driving efficiencies.

Technologies such as biometrics can help to enhance both security and efficiency across a range of security and law enforcement services, but in order to realise these benefits policy-makers need a good understanding of the possibilities – and practicalities – of technology innovations.

Civil Service World and Leidos will bring together leading academics with public sector practitioners to explore the latest developments in biometrics and border security technology research. We will consider how these could be applied to improve border and public security in the UK, discussing both the potential benefits and challenges of implementing these technologies.

The roundtable will consider a range of topics, including:

-The latest biometrics research from academics present

-Best practices and innovative applications from across the UK public sector and internationally

-Challenges faced in realising the full benefits of biometric technologies

-How industry can support Government to implement new technologies effectively and efficiently
