The government is looking for private sector suppliers to join a new £700m framework for records management, including services to convert paper records to digital. 

The Crown Commercial Service has published a tender for provision of devices and management services for organisations across the public sector. 

The four-year contract includes a £25m lot for scanning services to turn physical records into digital files. 

The tender said: “The scope of this lot…is for the management of records and the ‘physical to digital’ process in line with government’ss broader ‘digital by default’ strategy.”

The lot would include a scanning services for paper records, plus hosting services for the digital storage of scanned images or their transfer into contracting authorities’ records information management systems.

Other lots cover the supply of hardware for public bodies and management of printed documents. One provides for a “sensitivity review service” which will identify whether records contain sensitive information.

 Another will appoint a supplier to carry out independent audit and consultancy services on content management to purchasers. Responses to the tender must be received by 5 September.
