Government Property Agency seeks digital chief to lead ’10-year technology journey’

Role advertised with salary of up to £118k per year

The Government Property Agency is seeking a digital leader to help set the organisation’s technology strategy for the next 10 years.

The GPA was created in 2018 as an executive agency of the Cabinet Office. Two years later it “established a new digital, data and technology capability… to enable it to become a leader in property management digital services and manage [a] substantial property portfolio”, according to the job advert for the chief digital officer role.

“The technology team is currently in its early life and will need to be developed and grown over the next few years alongside the development of strategic partnerships with commercial providers for the necessary support services required to deliver a range of new systems and services to the GPA business units,” the advert added.

Investments in a various new tech systems are planned for the coming months and years, including customer relationship management platforms, as well as finance and other back-office systems, and data visualisation technology.

The digital leadership post – which is at deputy-director level – represents a “business-critical role to take the GPA to its next stage of technology maturity”.

The advert said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced, innovative leader who is comfortable in a hands-on role directly involved in operations and change management, whilst also innovating and developing strategy to join the organisation at the start of a 10-year technology journey, influence direction across a wide range of technology areas, and have a real impact on business outcomes.”

The successful candidate will be based at one of seven GPA offices: Birmingham; Leeds; Manchester; Newport; Norwich; Nottingham; Swindon. The role comes with a salary of between £71,000 and £118,000.

The GPA is currently supporting a revamp of government workplaces that – as part of the levelling-up agenda – intends to move 22,000 civil service jobs out of London in the coming years.
