Chief data officer, digital delivery and digital strategy jobs advertised
The Scottish Government is advertising five senior jobs focused on data and digital technology as part of its efforts to develop digital services following the pandemic.
“The pandemic has fundamentally changed our way of life over the past two years,” says an introduction to each of the posts, leading to much greater use of digital technologies and services.
“The Scottish Government has an ambition to seize the opportunities this brings and has a clear vision to ensure that Scotland is recognised throughout the world as a truly innovative digital nation.”
Its new chief data officer will be accountable “for leading the development and delivery of public sector data strategy, governance, control, policy development, and effective exploitation” as well as leading the development of Scotland’s artificial intelligence strategy. The job is an SCS pay band 1 role paying £77,340 to £83,233 with applications closing on Tuesday 20 September.
In August, Albert King said he was leaving this role after two years to take up a similar job at NHS National Services Scotland. He told PublicTechnology’s sister publication Holyrood: “The launch of the UK’s first national AI strategy has put Scotland on the map as a nation committed to the trustworthy, ethical and inclusive adoption of AI.”
The government is also advertising three deputy director roles covering digital delivery. The first covers cloud and digital services in the digital directorate, with the work including delivering new payments, digital identity and cloud platform services. The second, digital transformation, is also based in the digital directorate and will focus on supporting the development of transformation programmes across government. The third is based at the agriculture and rural economy directorate, running its digital and information services. All three are SCS pay band 1 jobs paying £77,340 to £83,233 and applications close on Sunday 25 September.
The digital directorate is also seeking a head of digital strategy and policy, leading the unit of that name with seven staff. It provides advice on digital policy to the cabinet secretary for finance and economy; and ministers. The role pays £65,275 with applications closing on Sunday 18 September.
Each of the jobs can be based in Edinburgh or Glasgow, with potential to take advantage of hybrid working pilots that allow staff to work partly at home or a local hub.
