Socitm to run care reform best practice events

The government has appointed public sector ICT representative body Socitm to help spread best practice from councils and health bodies working together to implement social care reforms.

The Care Act 2014 gives local authorities new responsibilities for delivering and monitoring social care services.

And now the Department of Health has charged Socitm with running a series of events to engage relevant professionals to explore the practical implications of the legislation and the local planning activities required.

A statement from the body said: “Socitm will play a key role in the care and support reform programme by helping local authorities and other stakeholders prepare to deliver the information management and underpinning technology changes required.”

The events organised by Socitm will consider the data security and privacy implications of using the public services network (PSN) as the basis for greater local authority sharing of health and care information between different providers of care.

The new reforms require case record management systems to embrace a more personalised approach in which citizens take greater responsibility for their own care. Councils will also be required to provide better social services and health care information online.

The government has already run nine regional events discussing the overall implications for local government of the impending legislation.

In November, it also created 14 pilot schemes to devise and implement innovative ways of delivering coordinated care.

The Socitm events will help learn from these schemes, engaging professionals from social care, specialists in care information systems, transformation and business process design, and other stakeholders.

Socitm has planned two early autumn summits in Leeds and London, while a programme of regional workshops for chief information officers and heads of ICT and health and social care informatics professionals will then take place in November and December.
