The Ministry of Defence is seeking to appoint a head of profession for more than 3,000 military and civilian technologists.

The post as head of information professions will “provide a single focal point and professional lead” for workers employed in IT, cybersecurity and digital roles, as well as those from the knowledge and information management (KIM) profession.

The role comes with a remit to provide the ministry with a “strategic overview of skills in the information professions” – including the identification of any issues that need addressing.

The postholder will also be expected to create and promote standards and “functional competences” across the techie workforce, as well as establishing good relationships with a range of people employed in defence IT roles.

In her introduction to the candidate pack, the MoD’s director of functional integration Claire Fry said she was looking for “high-calibre, driven professional”.

She added: “Ensuring that we have the right people, right skills and teamwork in these professional capabilities is critical to defence’s future success and you will be responsible for developing and implementing a clear workforce strategy to attract, develop and retain the talent we need. As a digital, IT, cybersecurity or KIM professional yourself, you will set the standards and support the development of individuals within the profession that in turn will establish a workforce that is capable, skilled and agile.”

Applications for the post are open [5] until 15 December.
