Kirklees uses PSN framework to appoint WAN supplier

Kirklees Council has chosen network manager MDNX to deliver its new wide area network, it has announced.

In an appointment made under the Public Services Network connectivity framework, the firm will take advantage of a link-up with fibre optic infrastructure provider CityFibre to speed up internet connections.

The council says that the appointment will provide staff with powerful digital infrastructure which will improve integration and collaboration.

Simon Holmyard, head of public sector for MDNX and Easynet, which was acquired by MDNX in December 2013, said: “For us, it was important to take time to understand Kirklees Council’s vision, and how this infrastructure would help its employees improve the services they provide.

“Now employees have access to a better, faster infrastructure which will transform the way they work”.

CityFibre will supply “dark fibre” (private) connectivity to Easynet’s PSN network. The firm has already delivered fibre networks for business use in York and Peterborough.

A spokesman for the company said that the deal means that “local authorities can secure a transformational solution, bringing them in-line with the most digitally advanced cities around the world”.
